My Godparents, Sondra and John Epps loved each other, church, cats and travel. They lived in New York, New Jersey and eventually North Carolina (United States). My godfather, Uncle Johnny was a firefighter who drove the 51 fire engine in the Bronx, New York. My godmother, Aunt Sandy worked for the Department of Labor.
They were very kind to me. They encouraged me.
They were civil servants who used their careers in service to others. I seek to return their encouragement and kindness back into the world through SJEF’s mission.

Founder/Director: Dr. Sonia Houston Pichardo
Dr. Sonia Houston Pichardo established the SJEF foundation to honor her godparents’ legacy of encouraging positive change through public service. Dr. Houston Pichardo is a visionary leader with experience in nonprofit management and educational initiatives. Her leadership is central to the strategic direction of both SJEF and TrialMentor as an innovative solution in clinical trials and healthcare education.
Secretary: Eden Pichardo
She serves as Secretary, leveraging her academic acumen and organizational skills as an IB graduate with a 3.95 GPA. As Secretary, Eden ensures the efficient handling of documentation and compliance, vital to the Foundation’s operations and its educational outreach through TrialMentor.
